Jr. Fish-Off Finals
2007 I.B.F. / Jay Gearld Memorial
Junior Invitational Trail
By Ken Gibbs
The finals for the junior trail were held on Glenn Flint Lake August 18th. The morning started out cool with temps in the mid 50's. It warmed up to the mid 80's with clear skies all day. It was a beautiful for fishing and catching!
We had six juniors participate. To qualify, they had to have been the top finisher within their age group at any of the previous four qualifying tournaments. The age groups consisted of 10 and under, 11-14, and 15-18.
The top finisher from this tournament decided our Junior State Champion. The top qualifier in each of the two older age divisions qualified for the 2008 National Guard Junior World Championship to be held in South Carolina next summer.
Your 2007 I.B.F. Junior State Champion is Kevin Kretsch.
(L-R) Blake Castle, Spencer Branum, Tyler Pendygraft, Jacob Wheeler, Chris Kaiser,
and the 2007 IBF Junior Champion, Kevin Kretsch
As I mentioned above, the "catching" was pretty good. Your winner Kevin had four fish that weighed10.33 lbs. and big bass that weighed 4.73 lbs. Second place went to Chris Kaiser with four fish that weighed 8.96 lbs. Third went to Jacob Wheeler with one fish that weighed 2.05 lbs. And fourth went to Spencer Branum with one fish that weighed 1.50 lbs.
The two juniors that will be representing the Indiana Bass Federation in South Carolina next summer are, Kevin Kretsch in the 15-18 age division and Spencer Branum in the 11-14 age division. Let's wish these boys GOOD LUCK next year when they fish in the 2008 National Guard Junior World Championship. If you see them, congratulate them.
A huge "Thank You" to the volunteer boat Captains for donating their time. And of course the Sponsors. They are why these kids get to do this.
