IBF TOURNAMENT TRAIL
DIRECTOR'S NEWSLETTER
2004 Classic
October 2 and 3, 2004

2004 Newsletter No. 6

The 2004 Indiana Bass Federation Tournament Trail ended in the Classic on October 2nd and 3rd at Patoka Reservoir. It has been a good year. My crew and I have fought a flood in June and a hurricane in October but it ended on beautiful day at Patoka. I would like to take a moment and thank my crew for all their help. It would not have happened without them.

As everybody knows, we had to move the Classic from Evansville to Patoka because of the Ohio River being flooded due to the recent hurricanes. A special thanks to all the people who tried to get our Classic at Evansville. A lot of work went into the project. Maybe we can try there again someday.

The Classic started on Saturday with cloudy skies but warm. The temperature dropped all day but the fish were biting. Thirty-five Anglers and twenty Co-Anglers caught fish on Saturday with one limit of five fish. Bill Buckner led on the Angler side with 12.76 pounds. Charles Fox, Jr. led the Co-Anglers at 9.18 pounds. This set up the final day shoot out. With eight Anglers having over ten pounds, it was anybody's tournament.

Sunday was cold and clear. It was foggy early but we still got off at 7:10 a.m. There was not a cloud in the sky all day. Fishing got a lot tougher. Only 14 Anglers came to the scales and 10 Co-Anglers, but somebody always catches fish.

On the Co-Angler side your winner of a Ranger R61, Mercury Outboard, Motorguide trolling motor, and Lowrance electronics was Charles Fox, Jr. with a two day catch of 11.64 pounds. Congratulations and enjoy that new Ranger. Second place went to Kevin Keltner with 7.70 pounds, third was Tom Schrader at 5.86 pounds, fourth was Rodney Johnson at 5.38 pounds and fifth was Paul Svec with 4.82 pounds. That's the top five and a great job guys.

On the Angler side, as I said, it was a lot closer with the top eight from Saturday being less than two pounds apart. Ron Eicher was the man that came through in the end with a total of 19.26 pounds. For his efforts he received a Ranger 519VX and a 200hp Mercury outboard, Lowrance electronics and Motorguide trolling motor. Congratulations and enjoy your new boat Ron - you earned it. Mike Quinlin tried to chase him down and only came in two pounds lighter to claim second place. By the way, Mike was paired up with Charles Fox, Jr. who won the Co-Angler boat. Great job of guiding, Mike. Nathan Gray was third with 14.42 pounds. Mark Dove came from way back in the field to finishing fourth. Mark had the only five fish limit on Sunday. Fifth place was Ed Bauer at 14.20 pounds. That's how it ended up. Great job by the top fishermen in the state of Indiana.

I would like to thank all the sponsors for what they do for the Indiana BASS Federation. I would also like to invite everybody to fish with us next year. If you have any ideas to help make our tournaments better please forward those to me. Bad or good this circuit is for the fishermen and belongs to the fishermen who support our Federation. Thanks again to everyone for the support in our first year of running the tournaments.

See you at the Boat, Sport and Travel Show.
