IBF TOURNAMENT TRAIL
DIRECTOR'S NEWSLETTER
Wawasee Tournament

2004 Newsletter No. 5

September 12, 2004

The last of the six IBF Invitational Tournaments was held on Sunday, September 12, 2004 at Lake Wawasee. It has been a great season and I would like to thank all those who fished with us this year. I would also like to invite all BASS members to find a Co-Angler or an Angler and join us next year.

The weather was clear and the temperature in the 80's. There were six limits of five fish in the tournament. The total of fish caught was 189.

On the Co-Angler side the winner was Ken Smith with a five fish limit that weighed 6.92 pounds. Great job from out of the back of a boat. Second place was Steve Littrell with 6.56 pounds. Third was Walter Pedigo with 6.14 pounds. Fourth was James Stone in at 6.12 and fifth was Jim Betts with 5.32 pounds. That's a close first to fifth place finish.

The Progressive Big Bass Pot was not hit so we split that money up between first, second and third big bass on the Co-Angler side. Jim Stone won both the Big Bass and the top Progressive slot with a 2.08 pound fish. The second and third big bass were a tie at 2.74 pounds. That was Pete Justice and Jason Herrell. Good fish!

On the Angler side Gary Byard found five fish that weighed 10.20 pounds for first place and some heavy cash. Second went to Bill Rea with four fish at 9.84 pounds. Mike Quinlin was right there with a limit that weighed 9.62 pounds for third place. Fourth place was Ron Crawford with 9.26 pounds. Fifth was Mark Randolph at 7.20 pounds. The top five were very close with one fish making a big difference.

Big Bass on the angler side was Bill Rea with a fish weighing in at 4.02 pounds.. Great job Bill! The overall standings on the Co-Angler side show that Walter Pedigo is the Co-Angler of the Year with 493 points. Steve Littrell was second, Joe Valles was third, Ken Smith was fourth and Jack Mundt finished out the top five. It was a close race and Walter sealed the title with that second place finish at Wawasee. These guys ran a great race for the Co-Angler of the Year.

One of the toughest titles to earn in fishing is Angler of the Year in Indiana. We have some very good fishermen in this state. It is a title that takes all season to win and one slip can let about fifty guys pass you up. It went down to the last tournament - the last fish. Scott Bateman is your 2004 Indiana BASS Federation Angler of the Year. In the last tournament he caught three fish barely beating out Paul Jones who caught two fish at Wawasee. That's cutting it close. Scott had a total of 513 points. Paul Jones fought for the title to the end and did a great job, finishing just behind with 504 points. Third place overall was Bernie Miller with 441 points. Fourth was Brandon McDonald with 431 points and fifth was Phil Reel in with 423 points. If you see any of these guys out on the water congratulate them. They all are top fisherman and earned their spot into the Classic.

The Classic will be held at the Ramp Dress Plaza located in downtown Evansville on October 2 and 3. Come watch the weigh in and see one Co-Angler and one Angler win new Ranger boats and trailers with Mercury motors. Yes, that's two boats - one for each.

     See you at the Classic.

Rob Worthy,
Tournament Director
